Bhola Power Plant
Challenge
To design and supply structural waterproofing to provide a Grade 3 environment for new build semi-basement.
Design
Atal was contacted by the main contractor to provide a design, details and quote for the semi-basement in Feb 2022. The system needed to be cost-effective whilst meeting the BS8102 standards.
No site investigation report was provided for Atal to assess the risk of the project; we assumed the worst-case scenario for the design (that the water table was at ground level). After searching the project address on ukradon.org, full radon protection measures were required.
As the worst case scenario was assumed, we specified combined waterproofing protection; Type A (externally) and Type C (internally). The Type C system consisted of Atal Flo Board CM8 with Atal Waterguard Channel located at the bottom of the wall. On the external blockwork wall we specified Atal 109LM and protected using Atal Flo Board 4e. As Atal Flo Board 4e provided drainage behind the wall, the contractor could backfill with “as dug” material, saving time and money and improving green credentials. Radon protection was provided to the beam and block floor using Atal Groundsil RB doubled sealed to the Atal Flo Board CM8.
The Atal waterproofing specification was coupled with a ventilation strategy to provide a Grade 3 environment.
